DanDirectory is a multi-utility utility for Windows 95/98/NT that allows you to quickly access an easy-to-use number converter, a text coder and decoder, an MD5 hash generator and a network hostname resolver.

The author of this program was trying to combine a number of related tools into one application, but the result is a bit all over the place.
Instead of having separate utility windows, all the related tools are squeezed into one, thus taking up lots of space. If you want to access the MD5 hash generator, for example, you must first open the number converter utility, then switch back to the hash generator and finally go to the Send a message window.
If you want to use the program’s numbering system converter, you must first open the network hostname resolver utility before you can use the conversion.
The author must be congratulated for being able to provide so many useful utilities. I was glad to be able to quickly resolve a network computer’s name using the program’s network hostname resolver utility. The text coder and decoder utility is interesting, but that’s about it.

Reverse/mirror WebBrowser control on a Form
I need to create a form which contains a WebBrowser control and then, when the user clicks on it, the controls should be re-arranged so that the WebBrowser control is in the bottom right of the form (the other controls moving to the left).
What I need is the reverse of the webbrowser top left position and the mirroring of the screen (that is, the form should be upside down). I tried to do this by assigning the X and Y coordinates for the WebBrowser control, but they are reversed, and by mirroring the screen coordinates of the control are very different.
Is there a way to reverse the WebBrowser control on a Form?

One of the most annoying aspects of using computers is entering long IP addresses. In order to connect to an Internet resource, for example, you first have to know its IP address. That information can be difficult to obtain, especially if you are located far from the computer on which the resource is hosted. DanDirectory is designed to assist in retrieving the required information by providing a number of utilities.
The application is designed to appear in the system tray, but it can be configured to appear on the desktop as well. From there, you can launch a number of programs and features, some of which are actually quite useful.
On the left side of the window, you will find a listing of IP addresses and other computer information, all of which can be selected by using the mouse. Once selected, the information can be dragged to a predefined location on the right side of the window, where they are displayed in a list. The listing can be scrolled through the use of the arrow keys, or if you wish to read a certain information, you can click on its description.
If you are accessing a resource through an Internet service, such as a web page, then you can simply type in a domain name or IP address, select it from the list and click the Go button. If the selected address belongs to a computer, you will be directed to it, while in the case of a network device, you will be prompted to connect to it.
Once a connection is made, the selected network device will be displayed. You can click on its name in order to access various information. Among the most useful of these is the possibility to view the computer’s IP address, the MAC address of its physical device and the hostname. Additionally, you can launch commands using the DOS box, launch a URL, view the status of Windows connections and use the WinPopup utility. If you wish to access the Command Prompt, you will first need to launch Microsoft Word.
The utilities that are provided by DanDirectory can be grouped in four categories:
• Network Tools – these include the ability to list computers and access Windows commands.
• Internet Tools – provide the functionality to connect to an Internet resource.
• Tools – include the network monitor, the text coder/decoder, the send and sendfile commands.
• Other – provide functions such as the MD5 hash and binary to decimal converters.

There are other programs which do this sort of thing more quickly and better. But DanDirectory is one of the few that will “just work” on 95 and 98.
There are several numbers of interest which, for whatever reason, are missing from the more popular programs. One of the nicest features of DanDirectory is its ability to load windows in the tray, to be quickly accessible from that location.
A related utility for windows systems would be DanDirectory hostname helper which is useful for your web sites and other networking problems.
Best of all, DanDirectory is the latest program from this author, so it will always be maintained.

I found this program to be very useful. I thought it would be a very useful reference, but for me it was missing too many other things like a personal file manager. Other than that, it was very handy to be able to have a small program running on my desktop, that would just work for me.

I like to get information about networking, I needed to convert a network path from its IP address to its hostname and vice versa, the program’s ability to do this was obvious and the instructions it gave were perfect. I had a lot of problems searching for a program that could do this and gave me accurate results.

I use this program to lookup ip addresses, and to lookup domain names based on ip addresses. I am pleased with the results I get. I was also very impressed with the fact that I can lookup all the ip addresses on a subnet.
